The Seafood Bar is a restaurant that tourists visiting the Netherlands will definitely visit.
Fons de Visscher was a respected fishmonger for 27 years in Helmond, a small city in the Netherlands, when he decided to start a fish restaurant. Driven by his passion, Fons created The Seafood Bar in 2012 in Amsterdam.
I visited Amsterdam this time, specifically Van Baerlestraat 5H.

“This restaurant is very popular. We had already made a reservation for a certain day at noon, but on that day, we happened to be near a boutique and decided to dine there directly. It was around 2 p.m., and although the restaurant was still quite busy, it wasn’t peak hours. We were fortunate enough to get a table, but I would still recommend making a reservation in advance.

The staff are all very warm and friendly.
There are seating options besides regular tables, including bar tables where you can sit. You can see the seafood directly through transparent cabinets. I initially thought they were decorations, but then I saw the staff actually picking seafood from inside haha.
They provide small trash bins and utensils because there are a lot of shells and seafood. You can directly dispose of them into the trash bin. Halfway through the meal, the bin was already full, but the staff promptly came to replace it.

What I ordered
Combination of the Fruits de Mer ‘Seafood Bar’and the Mixed Grill 89.5€/2 people
We ordered the combo for two this time. We took a long time to decide from the menu. Although many people said the lobster soup was delicious, I wanted to try a variety of seafood. So, I asked the waiter for recommendations, and they suggested this dish. The top layer consists of cooked dishes, while the bottom layer contains raw seafood. It includes various types of seafood, lobster, shrimp, and shellfish.
The fish was very tender, and the shrimp was super fresh.
We only used lemon as a condiment and didn’t touch the sauces on the side. I feel that seafood should be enjoyed in its natural flavor to truly appreciate its freshness!
The lobster meat was juicy and very fresh.
In fact, there’s plenty of delicious seafood in Taiwan too, but I don’t usually go out of my way to eat seafood at the ports because my dad often buys a lot of seafood for me at home. However, the variety is limited to only those that I like. When traveling abroad, of course, I want to experience different types of seafood. Although my Dutch friends feel that seafood in Taiwan is tastier than this restaurant, I still highly recommend it.
